Roots of Equality

  • Founded Roots of Equality, a not-for-profit activism group.
  • Supervised a team of seven volunteers to produce “LAvender Los Angeles,” a visual exhibit highlighting the history of gay Los Angeles.
  • Oversaw the opening two week installation and programming of LAvender Los Angeles which garnered over 1,200 unique visitors.
  • Managed publicity and communications to promote the exhibit and events.  Developed a communications strategy that included print media, social media, and local press coverage maximizing a limited budget.
  • Partnered with the LA Gay and Lesbian Center Senior Services Center, Los Angeles Police Department, Historic Core Downtown Business Improvement District, Latino Equality Alliance, API Equality LA, and California Faith for Equality to program two weeks of events around LAvender Los Angeles.
  • Managed operations, outreach and fundraising efforts, exceeding fundraising goals and completed ”LAvender Los Angeles” with a net surplus of $4,000.
  • Collaborating with local grassroots community groups to produce cultural activist events.
